Bayside Advances built this heavy equipment payment calculator for owners in Moscow, ID and Latah County, Idaho pricing an excavator, loader, skidder or truck. Enter the price, down payment, rate and term to see an estimated monthly payment and total cost. It does not show what a partner will offer; partners set actual terms.
What the Calculator Computes
- Monthly payment on the financed amount (price minus down payment)
- Total cost: all payments plus the down payment
It works as an equipment loan calculator or a general business loan payment calculator for any fixed-payment financing. It does not model leases, seasonal payment plans or fees.
A Worked Example (Hypothetical)
Illustrative numbers only, not an offer. Price $85,000, down payment $10,000, test rate 9% a year, term 60 months. The financed amount is $75,000; the monthly payment comes to about $1,557; total payments are about $93,400, and total cost including the down payment is about $103,400. Shorten the term to 48 months and the payment rises to about $1,866 while total cost falls to about $99,600.
What the Inputs Mean
- Price: the quoted price, including attachments and delivery if they are financed
- Down payment: cash you put in at signing
- Rate: an annual percentage you want to test, not a quote
- Term: how many monthly payments
Testing a Heavy Equipment Quote
Use the calculator to test two or three scenarios before you call: a shorter and a longer term, a larger and a smaller down payment. A shorter term raises the payment but lowers total cost. Then check the payment against what the machine will earn each month. If a partner's written offer differs from your test, the partner's terms govern.
Forestry Equipment Financing
Logging is one sector with equipment needs in this county: 21 logging employer establishments with 143 employees in 2023 (County Business Patterns). Feller bunchers, skidders, processors and log loaders may be bought used. Our article on logging and forestry equipment financing covers liens, private sales and what partners ask.
Equipment Finance With a Balloon Payment (By Hand)
Some agreements end with a balloon: a larger final payment that lowers the monthly amount. This calculator does not model it. To estimate by hand, subtract the present value of the balloon from the price before entering it, or ask the partner for the full payment schedule.
Hypothetical illustration, not an offer: a $120,000 loader with $20,000 down and a $25,000 balloon after 60 months. At a test rate of 10% a year, the balloon's value today is about $15,200 ($25,000 divided by 1.6453, the growth factor for 60 months at that rate). Enter $104,800 as the price and $20,000 down; the calculator returns about $1,800 a month. Add the $25,000 balloon at the end when you total the cost. The partner's schedule will show the exact split.
